Sonoma Community Center named its next ceramics artist-in-residence – J. Miles Votek. A diverse artist, originally from Sonoma, Votek works in sculpture, printmaking and film.

Votek holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has received awards from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Herb and Karen Tews Scholarship Fund, the Thomas Baron Scholarship Fund, the California Art Educators Association, and Art Quest.

This winter, Votek will teach an eight-week class entiled “All Clay, All Levels” Fridays, from Jan. 24 to March 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a focus on ceramic sculpture. On Friday, June 6, SCC will hold an opening reception for the installation he intends to create during his residency.

SCC’s artist-in-residence program provides opportunities for self-directed, emerging or established artists to develop a cohesive body of work that reflects their time at SCC. Open to all artists living within the United States, the program culminates in a gallery exhibition at the completion of each residency.
