Rose to play softball for Humboldt State

Overcoming a serious knee injury that wiped out her sophomore season after a promising freshman year, Sonoma Valley High School senior softball standout Amber Rose turned in an outstanding junior campaign that sparked interest in her playing at the next level.

Rose, a power-hitting centerfielder with speed and a strong arm, signed with Humboldt State University for a softball scholarship in the SVHS library on Wednesday.

In the 2013 Sonoma County League season, Rose led the Lady Dragons to a third-place finish and a spot in the postseason North Coast Section playoffs with an impressive .546 batting average.

Rose also displayed near flawless defense in center field, which earned her SCL first-team all-league and second-team All-Empire honors.
