With Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity wrestlers getting last night’s three-team scrimmage at Casa Grande in Petaluma under their belts, they’ll officially open their 2013-14 season hosting a nonleague tri-match with Justin-Siena and Archbishop Hanna High School at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, in Golton Hall.
For the junior varsity and first-year Dragon wrestlers, their season starts with the annual Novice Tournament at Analy in Sebastopol tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 7.
Sonoma’s varsity basketball boys continue the nonleague portion of their 2013-14 schedule playing in the Kelseyville hosted Stokes Tournament, which began with yesterday’s opening round – results not available at presstime – and continues through tonight and tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Dragon boy cagers will then host nonleague San Marin next Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Pfeiffer Gym, with the freshmen starting at 4:30, the junior varsity begins at 6, and the varsity tips off at 7:30 p.m.
Sonoma’s jayvee hoops boys recently played three tough nonleague teams and came up short in all three games, losing 57-33 to Ukiah, falling 43-34 to Albany, and dropping a 68-24 decision to Bishop O’Dowd.
Against Ukiah, the jayvee Dragons were paced by Kevin Hurtado’s eight points, Max Yankovich and Christian Jimenez’s six each, Spencer McNairy’s five, two apiece by Travis Claeys, Miles Pimentel and Austin Chapin, and Edwin Reyes and Joe Peterson’s one each.
Pacing Sonoma’s jayvees at Albany were Reyes’ 11 points, Jimenez’s nine, four apiece by McNairy, Pimentel and Chapin, and two each by Claeys, Hurtado and Yankovich.
In the Bishop O’Dowd tilt, the Dragons were paced by Jimenez and Yankovich’s five points apiece, Hurtado’s four, Reyes and Pimentel’s three each, McNairy’s two and Claeys and Chapin’s one apiece.
