The long-running Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League is two weeks into its 2013-14 regular season, and both defending playoff and regular-season champions Patt’s Copy World and Heffernan Insurance Brokers, respectively, have already been dealt losses.

With two wins each, La Salette and R&B Custom Home Builders sit atop the early standings, while Murphy’s Irish Pub and the newly formed VOM Fire – a team comprised of firemen from the Sonoma Fire Department and Volunteer Sonoma Fireman Team – have two losses apiece.

The second Sunday night of action, Nov. 24, at the Altimira Middle School gym saw R&B Custom Home Builders upend Patt’s Copy World 67-46, led by Chris Nufo and Al Martinson’s game-high 21 points and four and three treys each, respectively, Gary MacKinnon’s 14 with four treys, Craig Brown’s 10 and Ron Luddy’s two. Patt’s was paced by Dave Studdert’s 16 points, Mark Fidler’s 11, Jeremy Lawson’s 10, Dan Flohr’s eight and Scott Summers’ five.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers downed Murphy’s Irish Pub 51-43, led by Clem Moore’s 12 points, Joe Neely’s 11, Brian Stephenson and Kevin Jaggie’s 10 apiece, and Steve Matuszak and Pete Ahern’s four each. Pacing the Pub were Rich Tunheim’s game-high 14 points, Jamie Svanda’s 13 with three treys, Steve Mellinger’s nine, Eric Jorgensen’s four and John Malinkowski’s three.

La Salette doused VOM Fire 60-28, led by Mike Kellison’s game-high 17 points, Marc Traverso’s 11, Kenton Lewis’ 10, John Barr’s nine on three treys, Kim Batchelder’s nine and Aaron Smith’s four. VOM was paced by Chris Ratto’s 15 points, Jason Campbell’s nine on three treys, and Tyler Nethaway and Matt Ingersoll’s two apiece.


On opening night, Sunday, Nov. 17, Patt’s Copy World topped VOM Fire 58-35, led by Tim Lilly’s game-high 24 points with five treys, Flohr’s  11, Studdert’s 10, Lawson’s five, Summers’ four and Fidler’s two. Pacing VOM were Ratto’s 13 points, Pat Dudy’s 10, Joe Kirkwood’s five, AJ Armanini’s four and Campbell’s three.

La Salette defeated Heffernan Insurance Brokers 61-37, led by Kellison’s game-high-tying 12 points, Aaron Locks’ 11 points with three treys, Batchelder’s 11, Don Fowler’s nine, Traverso’s eight, 8, Lewis’ six and Rich Cantor’s two. The Brokers were paced by Jaggie’s game-high-tying 12 points, Moore’s 11, Devin Ajax’s eight, Ahern’s four and Neely’s two.

R&B Custom Home Builders nipped Murphy’s Irish Pub 49-48, led by Martinson’s 17 points with five treys, Nufo’s 15 with three treys, MacKinnnon’s nine, and Brown and Luddy’s four each. Pacing Murphy’s were Jeff Kellogg’s game-high 25 points, Svanda’s 12, Mellinger’s seven and Tunheim’s four.
