Four Valley athletes who compete for Justin-Siena High School in Napa have followed up a solid regular season with strong postseason performances.

In volleyball, Sonoma’s Melissa Castellucci, Katelynn Hayden and Emily Wirick were key contributors to Justin-Siena’s recent impressive run through the North Coast Section championship playoffs, which included three victories over higher seeds en route to capturing the NCS Division-4 title.

Seeded seventh for the sectional after a 12-11 regular-season record, which included competing in the tough Marin County Athletic League, the Justin-Siena spikers began their NCS-winning march by upsetting highly favored second-seed Moreau Catholic in the tournament opener.

Then the Lady Braves upended third-seed Healdsburg in the semifinals and went on to defeat St. Patrick-St. Vincent of Vallejo in four sets to claim the NCS Division-4 crown.

Having started playing volleyball at the Valley’s St. Francis Solano School, Castellucci and Hayden, both seniors, and Wirick, a junior, joined their Justin-Siena teammates in hosting Hilmar from the San Joaquin valley in the opening round of the NorCal Division-4 playoffs Tuesday night – results not available at presstime. The division tourney winner moves on to the state championships.

Sonoma’s Teal Bullick, a Justin-Siena senior, placed 11th with a time of 19 minutes, 29 seconds, at last Saturday’s NCS Division-4 cross-country girls race at Hayward High School, and earned her second trip to the prestigious California state meet.

Bullick, who first reached the state meet as a sophomore, but missed her junior year with a foot stress fracture, will run in the challenging CIF state championship meet tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 30, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
