The Sonoma Classical Music Society announces its 10th season of providing great live classical music to audiences in Sonoma, the Sonoma Valley, and beyond. The society was formed in 2004 with the mission of sponsoring a series of classical music concerts of the highest professional quality in Sonoma. The concerts this season include:

• Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Vintage House senior center, 264 First St. E. Sonoma. The Alexander String Quartet returns to Sonoma to perform for the fifth time in the last 10 years. The Alexanders are one of the great quartets of the world and they will be performing an all-Beethoven concert, featuring Beethoven’s String Quartet #4, Op. 18, No. 4,in C minor, his String Quartet #16 in F major, op. 135, and his String Quartet #8 in E minor, Op. 59, No. 2, the Second of the three “Razumovsky” Quartets. It’s a superb program by a great quartet.

• Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Vintage House, Sonoma. The Cypress String Quartet returns to Sonoma with a guest artist. The major work on the program will be Franz Schubert’s monumental “String Quintet in C major, D. 956,” the greatest string quintet ever written. They will also perform Haydn’s String Quartet in D, op. 76, No. 5, and two works by the modern German composer Anton Webern, his “Langsamer Satz” (1905), and “Five Movements for String Quartet” (1909). Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the Schubert Quintet live.

• Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Vintage House, Sonoma. Pianist Anastasia Dedik returns to Sonoma for a recital whose major work will be Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” “Pictures” was written originally as a piano suite, and it is one of the most challenging works in the piano repertoire, a work which is rarely performed live. Dedik thrilled audiences two years ago with her technical proficiency and immaculate pianism; don’t miss her when she returns.

• Sunday, May 11, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Jacuzzi Family Winery, 24724 Arnold Drive, Sonoma. Sonoma’s Nigel Armstrong returns to the Barrel Room of Jacuzzi Family Winery for a Mother’s Day recital. Treat your mom to a performance by one of the top young violinists in the world, as Armstrong performs an eclectic mix of great works, including the superb Chausson “Poeme,” and Wieniaweski’s “Polonaise #1.” This will be your only opportunity in 2014 to hear Nigel live in Sonoma. Don’t miss it.
