Andean music and dance coming to the Valley

A benefit celebrating Andean music and dance as a benefit for Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls, in Cusco, Peru, will hit the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building on Sunday, Nov. 10, for an afternoon show that starts at 1 p.m. Two Bay Area musical groups, Trio Chaskinakuy and Colectivo Anqari, will present Andean panpipe, mandolin and flute music. Gundlach Bundschu Winery presents two acts tonight, Nov. 8, with the Los Angeles act Family of the Year and also, from San Francisco, Bonnie and the Bang Bang. Family of the Year has garnered heavy radio airplay and much attention over the course of two albums and four EPs.

The band describes its sound as an eclectic mix of pianos, horns, acoustic guitars and other assorted instrumentation that achieves a sophisticated yet playful indie-rock sound. Murphy’s Irish Pub has the Hellhounds tonight, Nov. 8, for an 8 p.m. show. Saturday, Nov. 9, it’s Under the Radar, also for an 8 p.m. show. Sunday, Nov. 10, there are two shows with the Vanguard Jazz Ensemble at 2 p.m. and Dave Aguilar and Peter McCauley, for a 7:30 p.m. show.

Belly dance superstar Nathalie Tedrick will present the “Club Night Belly Dance Workout” tonight, Nov. 8, at the Sonoma Community Center. The event will also feature Jon Williams as the resident DJ. Tickets will be available at the door.
