Yet another generous donor has stepped up to support Sonoma Valley Hospital. Mac and Leslie McQuown, owners of Stone Edge Farm Winery, have pledged a $150,000 matching challenge grant as the hospital enters the final stage of fundraising for its new emergency department and surgery center. The pledge will match, dollar for dollar, new gifts to the campaign up to $150,000, potentially raising an additional $300,000.
“This is a very timely pledge because we are closing in on our goal of $11 million,” said hospital CEO Kelly Mather. “Their pledge is especially meaningful because it is the McQuowns second gift to the campaign. Mac and Leslie generously supported us with a $1 million gift in 2011 after Mac had a very positive experience with the hospital.”
According to Harmony Plenty, campaign director, community donations have already matched the $250,000 challenge grant provided in September by Arline and Buddy Pepp. This has brought the campaign total to $10.6 million of the $11 million needed to pay for the hospital expansion.
Sonoma Valley Hospital will complete construction of the new emergency department and surgery center in November, and has planned a day-long event on Saturday, Nov. 16, to introduce the wing to the community with tours and a street party featuring food and music.
The Sonoma Valley Hospital Capital Campaign for Emergency Care is raising funds to close the gap between the $35 million general obligation bond (GOB) approved by Sonoma voters in 2008 to meet California seismic standards, and the cost of the new construction and equipment. More recent state seismic standards require most California hospitals to retrofit, rebuild or close, to prevent them from collapsing in the event of an earthquake. Thanks to the GOB obligation and philanthropic support from the community, Sonoma Valley Hospital will meet these new requirements, and bring the community an upgraded emergency room and surgical wing.
