Families can get their hands dirty at “Everybody Get into the Kitchen” at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art this Sunday, Oct. 20. Set for noon to 4 p.m., the family friendly day of events is offered in conjunction with “Kitchen Memories: Kathleen Thompson Hill Culinary Collection.”

Families are invited to grab an apron and head to the museum for a day of cookie painting, pumpkin carving and decorating and making real potato heads. Youngsters and adults alike can tinker with some of the culinary gadgets, and learn about printmaking as well. The highlight of the afternoon is the Gadget Chef Competition at 3 p.m., during which families will compete in a race to see who can whip, juice, mash, peel, roll and grate the fastest.

The cost is free for kids and $5 for adults. It was made possible by contributions from the Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Alliance and staff and volunteers from the Sonoma Valley School Garden Project.

The museum is located at 551 Broadway, in Sonoma. For more details, visit svma.org or call 939-7862.
