Sonoma Valley High homecoming this weekend

First held in the 1800s, high school homecoming is a tradition that welcomes students back to school with a slew of activities, and will be celebrated at Sonoma Valley High School this week.

From dragon footprints scattered throughout the campus, to themed costume events such as Twin Day and Wacky Tacky, all week long students will be showcasing their school spirit, leading up to the annual football game and homecoming dance this weekend.

The homecoming football game will take place Friday, Oct 18, when the Dragons take on the Healdsburg Greyhounds at Arnold Field, with the JV team playing at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.

To celebrate, the students’ annual Homecoming Parade will leave the high school at 1 p.m. on Friday, headed to the Plaza, with a variety of floats based on popular Pixar/Disney films created by each class. The dance will be the following evening, Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Pfieffer Gymnasium at the high school.

As always, the school’s upperclassmen nominated 10 seniors who will vie for the title of Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen. The winners will be announced during halftime at the game on Friday in front of parents and their fellow classmates.
