A Santa Rosa man suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding collided with a truck on Sonoma Mountain Road.
According to Officer Marcus Hawkins, with the California Highway Patrol, Robert Casciani, 56, was eastbound on Sonoma Mountain Road traveling downhill near Enterprise Road when he collided with a 22,000-pound winery truck that was westbound.
Truck driver, Gerald Anger, 43, of Napa, told the CHP he saw the bicyclist heading toward him and came to a complete stop. Casciani, who was traveling fast on his bicycle, was evidently unable to stop or swerve to avoid a collision with the truck.
As a result of the collision, the truck’s fiberglass hood cracked. Casciani was airlifted by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
The CHP said alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
