Lady Dragon spikers hammer Healdsburg

Continuing their romp through the Sonoma County League regular season, the two-time defending champion Sonoma Valley High School varsity volleyball girls posted their third straight three-set sweep of an SCL opponent last Thursday in Pfeiffer Gym.

Getting off to another quick start, the Lady Dragons snared the first-set 25-9, before withstanding visiting Healdsburg's second- and third-set spurts to register 25-22 and 25-20 wins, respectively, for the match victory.

Leading Sonoma were senior Gianna Monterosso’s 14 assists and one serving ace; seniors Kayten Mak’s and Kaitlyn Boldt's 13 digs each; junior Mackenzie Albrecht’s nine assists and six digs; junior Ciara Smith’s nine kills and two solo blocks; junior Delaney Swanson’s seven kills and one solo block; freshman Kiara Miles’ four kills; and sophomore Sami Von Gober’s three kills.

The Lady Dragon spikers, who improved their overall record to 14-4 and their SCL mark to 3-0, play Piner in Santa Rosa tonight, then host Elsie Allen this Thursday, Oct. 3, in Pfeiffer Gym, with the junior varsity starting at 5, followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.

After Thursday, Sonoma will play league road matches at Petaluma on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and, following a bye, at El Molino on Tuesday, Oct. 15, before returning home to host SCL rival Analy on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Pfeiffer Gym.
