The Wine Country Film Festival marks its 27th year of bringing compelling films from around the world to audiences in Sonoma, which this year includes a screening of the anticipated thriller “Gravity.” Set for Sept. 25 to 29 at a variety of venues in the Valley, the festival offers a wide range of passes, from single film tickets to access to all of the festival’s events.

The sneak peek of the space thriller “Gravity” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts working in outer space when something goes terribly wrong.

It will be screened under the stars at Deerfield Ranch Winery on Friday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. It will be proceeded by “Morente,” a Spanish film about famed flamenco singer Enrique Morente, which screens at 6:30 p.m. Palooza Catering and Events will prepare paella to complement the films of the night.

Back by popular demand, the festival will host another Taiwanese-theme night on Saturday, Sept. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. at Deerfield Ranch Winery.

The night includes a screening of “Touch of Light,” a film about a blind piano prodigy relationship with a young women who dreams of dancing. Shifu Master Justin Eggert, founder of Santa Rosa Wu Academy, will perform a Kung Fu sword dance and the Purple Orchid Group of the San Francisco Guzheng Music Society will offer a traditional medley of songs. A menu of Asian fusion items will be served.

New this year, the festival will offer an array of screenings at Dunbar Elementary School on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, which will be free for Sonoma County students. Many of the films are documentaries, such as “Growing Cities,” about the increasingly popular urban gardening movement; “Revolution” examines the environmental impact of people, from the coral reefs in Papua New Guinea and deforestation in Madagascar; while “Peru Sabe” explores the gastronomy movement emerging amongst youth in Peru. The cost to attend the Dunbar program is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors.

Tickets and passes are on sale now, with six different pass levels to choose from. Individual event tickets range from $8 to $20, depending on the event. Tickets can be purchased online in advance, or at the venue the day of the show.
