Sonoma girls stumble on soccer field, tennis courts

Facing tough Sonoma County League opponents on the road last Thursday, Sonoma Valley High School’s tennis and varsity soccer girls dropped 7-0 and 3-0 decisions to Petaluma and Analy, respectively.

For the varsity Dragon soccer boys, their anticipated SCL showdown with defending champion Analy at the high school field on Friday never happened as both teams waited 45 minutes for the referees to show, but they never did and the match will be rescheduled for a later date.

Sonoma’s boys hit the SCL soccer road for matches in Healdsburg tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 18, and against El Molino in Forestville on Friday, Sept. 20, while the Lady Dragons host league foes Healdsburg tonight and El Molino this Thursday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. on the high school field.

The tennis Lady Dragons’ results in their defeat at longtime SCL rival Petaluma include losses by junior Cecilia Montano to Maddie Thomas 0-6, 5-7 at No. 1 singles; junior Hanna Lemaire to Nicoline Petersen 1-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles; senior Michelle Stovall to Morgan Intoschi 4-6, 2-6 at No. 3 singles; junior Annie Morgan to Emma Morgan 2-6, 2-6 at No. 4 singles; senior Ava Gonzalez and sophomore Brenda Maldonado to Sophia Murphy and Hannah Sloth 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1 doubles; senior Brooke Slack and junior Stephanie Angulo to Ada Payne and Julia Brena 1-6, 3-6 at No. 2 doubles; and sophomore Alison Gray and freshman Sydney Moore to Emma Stessman and Grace Slembrouk 3-6, 1-6 at No. 3 doubles.
