Faire celebrates middle school writers

This year’s Jim Thrower Rotary Writing Faire Authors’ Reception was held at a new venue by Sonoma Rotary Club, which not only supported the Faire monetarily but, this year, hosted it at the newly refurbished Sonoma Community Center.

The winning writing pieces were read by the young authors in the theatre. As in the past, all middle schools in the Valley were represented. Hundreds of writing submissions were judged by local authors who included Kathleen Hill, Rebecca Lawton, Pam Gibson, Carole Kelleher and Vicky Whiting.

Kathy Eschleman and Cathy Wedell, faire coordinators, remarked on their gratitude to the middle school teachers who inspired these young authors, as well as Readers’ Books, Spring Flowers, the Sonoma Index-Tribune and especially Sonoma Rotary for their continued efforts to celebrate the youth of Sonoma.

• Rotary Four Way Test – first place: “Rotary 4 Way Test,” Emma Bartolome

• Historical Essay – first place: “The Journal of Arthur Pelham,” Isabelle Ring
