Domestic violence, threats land boyfriend in jail

Called to a home in the 200 block of Fine Avenue, on March 22, by neighbors who witnessed a fight, Sonoma police knocked on the front door at about 2:15 p.m. and 20-year-old Federico Pariga answered.

When police asked who was fighting, Pariga reportedly said, “Nobody.” But police nevertheless went inside, where they found his 19-year-old girlfriend with numerous abrasions and bruises. “Please take him away,” she reportedly whispered to an officer, “He will kill me.”

She explained the two had been dating for two years and that she had recently had an affair. Things had been rocky since then, she said, and that day they had gotten into an argument, during which, she said, he punched and kicked her, pulled her hair and bit her ear and fingers.

After that beating, she told police, she and Pariga fell asleep, although he made her sleep on the floor. She awoke later on, she said, with Pariga hitting her with pillows and his fists before he went to sleep again.

The next time he woke up, she said, he hit her with a shoe, slapped her face and held a knife to her wrist, saying he would slash her wrists if he left her or called the police. He then drove the knife into the wall.
