Tasting rooms, traffic on plan panel agenda

Tasting room regulations are back on the Sonoma Planning Commission agenda Thursday, along with a potpourri of items including a study session on the circulation and housing elements of the city’s general plan.

After several meetings and direction from the City Council, the commission will attempt to establish definitions and regulations pertaining to wine tasting facilities and wine bars/tap rooms.

Recommendations will then be forwarded to the City Council before becoming law.

In addition, the long-awaited update to the housing and circulation elements of the general plan will be discussed during a study session. While the permanent population remains relatively static, more and more visitors are coming to Sonoma, raising the interest level in how cars get from one side of town to the other.

Later in the meeting, the commission will consider code amendments that examine provisions related to density bonuses, inclusionary housing and use permits for emergency shelters in the public zoning district. The group will also review agricultural employee housing, and provide clarification for residential care facilities in the mixed-use zone.
