Three Sonoma students head to state debate tourney

In an exceptionally successful season for Sonoma students, three local speech and debate students are headed to Modesto for the California High School Speech Association (CHSSA) Championship in late April.

Delaney Gold-Diamond, a senior at Sonoma Valley High School, is returning for her second year at the competition, having earned a spot based on her recent success at the CHSSA State Championship Qualifier.

She will compete in the category of Original Advocacy.

Jack Greenberg of Sonoma, and Liam Kolling of Glen Ellen, both sophomores at Sonoma Academy (SA), qualified for the State Championship in the category of Parlimentary debate.

Five students from Sonoma Academy qualified to compete at the state level, the most of any high school in California this year, according to SA.

The Golden State Speech Association, in which both SA and SVHS compete, is widely regarded as one of the most competitive leagues in the nation, according to Sonoma Valley High forensics coach Janet Hansen.
