District GATE students gather to explore electronics

More than 80 fourth- and fifth-grade GATE (Gifted and Talented) students from around the district gathered at Prestwood Elementary School earlier this month for a half-day symposium on robotics, radios and circuitry. A special community guest was Jim Hill, president of the Valley of the Moon Amateur Radio Club, who taught the students some Morse code. In a program organized by district gifted education coordinator Suzanne Heiser, GATE-identified students gather four times a year for hands-on workshops of this type to enrich their classroom learning. Pictured from left are Prestwood fourth-graders Isabella Boucher, Isabella Brophy and Priya Clark.
