Lady Dragons hammer Healdsburg

Putting together another strong defensive effort, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls wrapped up their Sonoma County League road trips with a resounding 46-18 victory Wednesday night at Healdsburg.

With the runaway win, the Lady Dragons improved their SCL record to 9-2 and secured both second place and the second seed for next week’s annual postseason SCL Tournament, where they’ll host third-place Petaluma in the tourney opener at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Pfeiffer Gym.

The Sonoma girls will end their regular season hosting champion Analy – the SCL Tourney top seed, who will host fourth-seed Healdsburg in the opening round – at 7:30 tonight in Pfeiffer Gym, preceded by the 6 p.m. junior varsity game.

Before tonight’s varsity tipoff, Sonoma will honor its three seniors Maddie Burningham, Giana Monterosso and Megan Neely.

In soundly defeating Healdsburg, the Lady Dragons were in defense mode right from the opening tip, adding solid offensive execution as they built up a 24-5 halftime advantage en route to the 28-point rout fueled by the all-around play of Monterosso and juniors Shelby Camilleri, Ciara Smith and Delaney Swanson.
