With the second half of the 12-game Sonoma County League season underway, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball boys will be making a strong push to reach the postseason.
To make the North Coast Section Division-3 playoffs, the Dragons will probably need to win their last five league games and make a good showing in the annual SCL Tournament, which will, hopefully, be their first postseason stop.
To make the SCL Tourney, Sonoma has to be one of the top-four teams in the final standings, with the league champion and top seed playing the fourth-place school, and the second- and third-place squads battling in the first round of action, with the two opening-round winners then playing for the tournament title.
Currently, the Dragons who had a 4-2 SCL record before playing first-place defending champion Analy last night – results not available at presstime – are in third place, with Piner in second and Elsie Allen in the fourth spot, followed in order by El Molino, Petaluma and Healdsburg.
Sonoma begins its final five SCL regular-season-game stretch hosting El Molino this Tueday, Feb. 4, in Pfeiffer Gym – freshmen start at 4:30, the junior varsity play at 6, and the varsity tips off at 7:30 p.m. – with two more home games left against Healdsburg on Saturday, Feb. 8, and Petaluma on Thursday, Feb. 13.
