Good strong tides prevail through the weekend and mean that the best chances for catching sturgeon in the North Bay will be today through Sunday.
Kevin Wolf, and Loch Lomond Bait Shop in San Rafael, said that a few anglers have been hooking sturgeon plus a few striped bass in the area of the Pump House. He added there was a lot of herring spawning near China Camp, which is apparently good news and bad news, because the sturgeon appear to be stuffed with herring row, and not all that interested in anything else.
Clients of Capt. Rick Powers, of Bodega Bay Sportfishing, are still bringing home limits of dungeness crab plus buckets full of sand dabs on virtually every trip. Rick will keep offering these combo trips until ocean salmon action begins on April 1.
Rick is also offering whale-watching trips every Saturday, Sunday and recognized holidays. The trips cost $55 for adults and $35 for children ages 12-and-under. The whales are in their peak migration and there are a lot to see, Rick said. Call him at 875-3344.
