‘Color Purple’ kicks off Sebastiani Theatre Foundation’s Vintage Film Series

The Sebastiani Theatre Foundation continues its Vintage Film Series with classic movies showing one Monday each month, through June.

Movie lovers of all ages now have the opportunity to experience these classic films the way they were meant to be seen – on the big screen. A fundraising effort by the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation, the Vintage Film Series brings some of the most memorable classic films back to the historic Sebastiani Theatre on the Sonoma Plaza.

This year, the Vintage Film Series includes:

• Monday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m., “The Color Purple” (1985), directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Alice Walker (novel) and Menno Meyjes (screenplay) and stars Danny Glover, Whoopie Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey. “The Color Purple” tells the tortuous life story of Celie, a young African American girl growing up in the early 1900s. Rated PG-13.

• Monday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m. “Camelot” (1967), directed by Joshua Logan, the movie stars Richard Harris, Vanessa Redgrave, and Franco Nero. Written by Alan Jay Lerner (screenplay based on the play “Camelot”) and T. H. White (the book, ”The Once and Future King”), this film is about the marriage of England’s King Arthur to Guinevere. The plot of illegitimate Modred to gain the throne and Guinevere’s growing attachment to Sir Lancelot threaten to topple Arthur and destroy his “roundtable” knights. Rated G.
