Lady Dragons cruise past El Mo

On the heels of their big Sonoma County League-opening win over the defending champion last Wednesday on their home court, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls turned in a dominating performance from the opening tap to the final whistle and are off to a strong 2-0 SCL start.

After beating longtime rival Petaluma, which edged them in two games to capture last year's SCL title, the Lady Dragons sprinted out to a lightning fast 10-0 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 76-26 victory over El Molino Friday night in Pfeiffer Gym.

Leading Sonoma were junior Delaney Swanson’s 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals; junior Mackenzie Albrecht’s double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals; junior Sierra Lilly's 13 points; junior Alexa Hall’s 11 points; junior Ciara Smith’s six points, 10 rebounds and four blocks; junior Shelby Camilleri's two points and seven rebounds; sophomore Bella Bollman's two points and seven assists; and junior Hanna Lemaire’s two points.

The Lady Dragons now hit the SCL road for games in Santa Rosa, where they'll first face Piner tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 15, and then play at Elsie Allen on Friday, Jan. 17.

Sonoma's varsity hoops girls will then return home to host this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day SCL versus North Bay League Challenge in Pfeiffer Gym on Monday, Jan. 20.
