Supervisors name appointees to community law enforcement task force

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors completed its appointments to the 21-member Community and Local Law Enforcement Task Force at Tuesday’s board meeting.

The supervisors created the task force on Dec. 3, as one of approximately 20 actions for the county to work with the community in addressing the recent impacts of the shooting and death of Andy Lopez.

The Community Task Force is comprised of 21 members appointed by the Board of Supervisors, Sonoma County Sherriff, Sonoma County District Attorney, and the Mayor of Santa Rosa.

The Task Force will make recommendations related to an independent citizen review body for law enforcement, explore options for community policing, consider an elected coroner’s office, as well as provide the board with any additional community feedback on related topics.

First District members include Brien Farrell, Maite Iturri and Caroline Banuelos.

The first meeting of the Community and Local Law Enforcement Task Force is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the Department of Human Services Building, 2227 Capricorn Way, Santa Rosa.
