Lady Dragons stumble at Justin-Siena

On the heels of a 4-2 preseason start, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity basketball girls are currently on a long, rough nonleague road trip that reached four straight losses Saturday night in Napa.

After dropping three consecutive games in Miramonte’s recent Mats Tournament in the East Bay, the visiting Lady Dragons, who again rebounded well, continued to have their offensive woes, which included missed shots from the field and free throw line and turnovers, and led to a  57-35 defeat at the hands of Justin-Siena.

Pacing Sonoma were junior Mackenzie Albrecht’s double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds; junior Delaney Swanson’s eight points and four rebounds; junior Alexa Hall’s five points; senior Giana Monterosso’s four points and three rebounds; and junior Hanna Lemaire’s three points and senior Maddie Burningham’s two.

The road trip could get more perilous for the Sonoma varsity girls as their competitive journey reaches its farthest destination the day after the Christmas holiday, when they make their annual holiday trek to Arizona to compete in the challenging Cactus Jam in Tempe this Friday through Monday, Dec. 27 to 30.

The Lady Dragon cagers will finally return home to open their Sonoma County League season on Wednesday, Jan. 8, when they host longtime SCL rival Petaluma in Pfeiffer Gym with freshmen starting at 4:30, junior varsity playing at 6, and the varsity tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
