Sonoma girls continue long road trip

On the heels of five straight home games to start the 2013-14 schedule, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity basketball girls are on an extended road trip that began last week in Lafayette, extended through Miramonte’s Mats Tournament in the East Bay, and continues through Napa and into Arizona.

The Lady Dragons play a 7:30 p.m. nonleague game at Justin-Siena tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 21, before making their annual holiday trek to Arizona to compete in the challenging Cactus Jam in Tempe from Friday through Monday, Dec. 27 to 30.

Sonoma’s girl cagers open their Sonoma County League season on Wednesday, Jan. 8, when they host longtime SCL rival Petaluma in Pfeiffer Gym with freshmen start at 4:30, junior varsity play at 6, and the varsity tips off at 7:30 p.m.

Sonoma’s jayvee hoops girls, coached by Jann Thorpe, turned three strong performances into three straight victories en route to capturing last weekend’s Miramonte-hosted Mats Jayvee Tournament title, with sophomore Jenny Eggers earning all-tourney honors.
