Sonoma winter teams working out with action on near horizon

While Sonoma Valley High School’s fall sports postseason continues for volleyball and cross-country, Sonoma’s 2013-14 winter sports teams in basketball and wrestling have one week of preseason workouts under their collective belts, with the hoops squads on-court action on the near horizon.

The Lady Dragons will partake in two hoops scrimmages – at Rancho Cotate this Thursday evening, Nov. 21, and in this Saturday’s, Nov. 23, annual Justin-Siena Scramble in Napa – before traveling to Santa Rosa to face Cardinal Newman in the annual Foundation Game next Tuesday night, Nov. 26.

Sonoma’s varsity girl cagers will then host their annual alumnae game at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in Pfeiffer Gym and any Lady Dragon alumna cager interested in playing can contact assistant coach Sheila Brady at 287-0571 or email at sheila@ladydragonbasketball.org, or Sarah Semenero at 322-0261.

The Lady Dragons open their nonleague preseason schedule by hosting Sir Francis Drake on Saturday night, Nov. 30, in Pfeiffer Gym.

In their Foundation Game matchup next Tuesday, Nov. 26, Sonoma’s basketball boys will be hosting Casa Grande at Pfeiffer Gym – freshmen start at 4:30, the junior varsity play at 6, and the varsity tipoff at 7:30 p.m. – before opening their nonleague preseason at Ukiah on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
