A donation; a special price for special pooches

Thank you Sonoma! It is the season of giving thanks, so I’ll just start this column off with resounding gratitude for our Sonoma community. This is a remarkable place to live and it’s pretty inspiring how we take care of each other.

One example of that is “Big Al” Opisso who recently passed, but bequeathed Pets Lifeline part of his legacy. A good friend of the family, Dale Cecil and Big Al’s nephew, Wilson (Willie) Trood, and his grand-nephew, Nolan Trood, came by the shelter Saturday to personally hand me the check.

Dog lovers out there, we want to find all our dogs homes for the holidays. So for these special pooches mentioned below, we are offering a $100 adoption fee until the end of the year.

We have some incredible dogs who have spent far too much time in the shelter. Doc and Bessie are two beautiful littermate black labs that are about 1-1/2 years old and both are coming into their own. When they came to us, they had not been socialized at all and were strictly backyard dogs. We have been training them separately and both are very smart and attentive. They still need training and attention, but either one of these dogs would be a great adventure or family dog. Bessie does not do well with other dogs, but Doc would probably be OK given some time to get to know a new friend. Come check them out.

We also have Daisy and Maggie, two beautiful spaniel sisters who were also owner surrenders. A few weeks after they were left with us, we diagnosed them with heartworm. The two brave souls endured some very intensive treatment and now have totally clean bills of health. Daisy is a very outgoing and confident young girl and Maggie is still very shy. They could be adopted as a pair but would be fine individually as well, just like Bessie and Doc.
