Country singer performs at Adele

Young, up-and-coming country music star Lizzie Sider performed at Adele Harrison Middle School in October as part of an anti-bully outreach program. She is scheduled to perform at more than 80 middle and high schools in October and November.

During the assembly, Sider talked about her own story of being teased and ridiculed in elementary school, what it felt like, and how she tried to deal with it. She focused on the importance of everyone standing up to stop bullying. She also spoke about what it is like to be 15 and pursuing a professional music career, to be on TV and radio and to be interviewed for newspapers and magazines. She sang some songs, including her debut single, “Butterfly,” which has more than 1,000,000 views on YouTube. School counselor Laura Losk heard about the assembly opportunity and contacted Sider's team, and Adele was chosen to one of the 80 schools on her tour.

“Lizzie is an amazing performer and she told her own story about being bullied in elementary school.  Most importantly, her message to our students was ‘Nobody has the right to ruin your day,’" said Losk.  Each student received a bracelet with her message and name on it. According to Losk, Sider's message mirrors the proactive approach to bullying taken by Adele's Safe Schools Ambassadors, educating students about bullying behavior whether a student is the bully or the target.

Sider is 15, and she has performed all over the country, been on TV and radio many times and performed the national anthems at dozens of major league sporting events. Her first single, “Butterfly," and her second single release and music video, “I Love You That Much," charted in the Top 40 on Nashville’s Music Row Chart.  "It was such a great assembly," said Adele seventh-grader Tesla Carlsson. "Lizzie was fun and it was so inspiring because she isn't much older than us!"
