'Julie and Julia' with girl and the fig at SVMA

Food and film collide at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, where a Sonoma chef will prepare a “signature taste” inspired by the movie. On Thursday, Nov. 7, the film will be “Julie and Julia.”

A culinary legend provides a frustrated office worker with a new recipe for life in “Julie and Julia,” the true stories of how Julia Child’s (played by Meryl Streep) life and cookbook inspired fledgling writer Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) to whip up 524 recipes in 365 days and introduce a new generation to the magic of French cooking. Stanley Tucci co-stars in director Nora Ephron’s delicious comedy about joy, obsession and butter.

Hosted by Kathleen Hill, the series is presented with the Sonoma International Film Festival, in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition, “Kitchen Memories: The Kathleen Thompson Hill Culinary Collection,” on display through Sunday, Dec. 1.

Chefs Sondra Bernstein and John Toulze of the girl and the fig will whip up signature tastes with a French twist. Wine will be poured courtesy of Hughes Family Vineyards.

Tickets are $20 for each screening, or $15 for museum members.
