Sonoma tennis girls soar in SCL opener

It was a smashingly successful Sonoma County League opener for Sonoma Valley High School’s tennis girls, while the girl golfers were upended on the SCL road, and the soccer boys tuned up for their league start at the weekend’s annual, and challenging, Bay Cities Invitational Tournament.

The tennis Lady Dragons began their SCL season with a 7-0 blanking of visiting El Molino on the high school courts last Thursday, led in singles play by junior Cecilia Montano’s 6-3, 6-1  over Issabella Negri at No. 1 singles; junior Hanna Lemaire’s 6-3, 6-1 over Addie Pimpe at No. 2 singles; senior Michelle Stovall’s 6-1, 6-3 over Mary Rose Ohlin at No. 3 singles; and junior Annie Morgan’s 6-0, 6-0 over Erin Eck at No. 4 singles.

Sonoma was led in doubles play by senior Ava Gonzales’ and sophomore Brenda Maldonado’s 6-4, 6-1 win over Maddie Richard and Emma Seigler at No. 1 doubles; seniors Haley Glasner’s and Brooke Slack’s 6-1, 6-2 over Grace Kan and Joy Risley at No. 2 doubles; and junior Stephanie Angulo’s sophomore Alison Gray’s 6-0, 6-2 over Savannah Harrison and Jessica Ramalia at No. 3 doubles.

The Lady Dragons hit the SCL road for matches at Piner in Santa Rosa today and at Petaluma this Thursday, Sept. 12.
