Vintage House marks 30th year

Vintage House senior center will be celebrating its pearl anniversary, marking 30 years of supporting seniors in Sonoma Valley. To honor the occasion, the community is invited to attend a celebratory reception on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A short program honoring the past, present and future of this resource to the community will take place from 6 to 6:15 p.m. During the night, board members, staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about Vintage House. Reservations are requested by contacting 996-0311 or info@vintagehouse.org.

Vintage House senior center is located at 264 First St. E. in Sonoma. Throughout the year, it offers a broad range of advocacy programs, health care and educational services, art, leisure and recreation classes, activities, as well as workshops and forums for seniors and advocates. Most programs are offered at low or no cost for Valley seniors.

Looking to the immediate future, Vintage House is in need of a volunteer chef (or chefs) to cook up both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day meals to members of the community, who might otherwise be alone for the holidays. The holidays can be a hard time for seniors who aren’t near their families, and Vintage House makes sure to bring plenty of cheer to their festive

Experience providing meals for a large number of people is recommended, as upwards of 200 traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas meals are served at Vintage House. Additionally, about 100 meals are sent out into the community, with the help of Kiwanis Club of Sonoma Plaza. An ideal candidate works well with others and communicate clear instructions to volunteers.

The chef coordinates all aspects of the shopping and food preparation, and cooks in the commercial kitchen at Vintage House. There are several volunteers who assist in preparation the week of the event, as well as on the day. A Vintage House staff member coordinates the event, and will work with the volunteer chef to make sure the event runs smoothly.
