Cross-country Dragon teams outrun Windsor, Claeys winner

Picking up their competitive steam, the Sonoma Valley High School boys and girls’ varsity cross-country teams ran past Windsor for a pair of nonleague dual-meet wins Wednesday on the 2.7-mile Maxwell Farms Regional Park course.

Sonoma's boy runners outran Windsor for a 23-33 victory, led by junior Travis Claeys' boys' first-place and overall winning time of 16 minutes, 8 seconds; senior Ian Sloop's second-place finish in 16:16; junior Leo Macedonio's fourthy in 16:34; sophomore Angel Barcenas' seventh in 17:14; senior Return Bongiovanni's ninth in 17:55; junior Pablo Cruz's 10th in 18:12; and sophomore Campbell Martin's 13th in 18:22; and junior Austin Chapman's 15th in 18:34.

The Lady Dragons had five of the top seven finishers in beating Windsor 19-42, with junior Maddy Libbey winning the girls' race, while finishing 11th overall, in 18:17; followed by freshman Eliza Neeley's second- and overall-16th-place in 18:53; sophomore Maddie Cashel's fourth and 21st in 19:22; sophomore Grace Cutting's fifth and 22nd in 19:27; frosh Helena Goodman's seventh and 26th in 21:14; sophomore Crystal Rodriguez's 28th in 21:38; sophomore Erika Itzel Reyes' 29th in 23:06; junior Alsy Howard's 33rd in 26:18.

Sonoma's varsity boys and girls' water polo squads, who played Marin Academy in Larkspur on Tuesday – results not available at presstime – host San Marin in their Marin County Athletic League home opener on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Sonoma Aquatic Center.
