County seeks commissioners

First District Supervisor Susan Gorin is looking for volunteers for four county commissions.

The following commissions have vacancies:

• Commission on Human Rights: The purpose of the commission is to promote better human relations among all people in Sonoma County through education, mediation, cooperation with County and community agencies, and by initiating action that fosters the recognition of and an appreciation for the cultural diversity of the community.

• Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission (SVCAC): The SVCAC provides a regular forum for citizen participation in the formation of public policy, considers issues concerning the Sonoma Valley, evaluates solutions of these issues, advises elected officials and other decision makers, and forms a bridge for communication between the various governmental agencies and the general public. There are two vacancies on Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission for a resident of El Verano West and County Alternate.

• The Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women: The Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established in 1975 to promote equal rights and opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all women and girls and to address issues of discrimination and prejudice that negatively affect women in Sonoma County. There is one vacancy.

• Flood Control Advisory Committee, Valley of the Moon Zone 3A: Members of this committee are representative of agricultural, residential, municipal and commercial interests within this zone and advise on flood control matters. There are three vacancies on the Flood Control Advisory Committee, Valley of the Moon, Zone 3A.

There is a Sept. 1 deadline on applications for the vacancies.
