CEO pay raise versus Wellness Center

Editor, Index-Tribune

I have attended the Sonoma Valley Wellness Center (cardiac rehab) for more than 20 years.

The recent closing of the Wellness Center at the hospital has adversely affected many people who attended and depended on this facility. These same people brought so much goodwill to the hospital that it far outweighed the cost. I was informed that the Wellness Center closed because it lost money from the start.

The recent raise in pay and bonus to the hospital CEO was close to the amount that would have been needed to keep the Wellness Center open. When others in the same industry are asked to take less, it doesn’t make sense to give a substantial raise to one person.

I am not rock throwing, but a better solution could have been worked out more fairly for the good of our community.

I have had the best of care over the years at Sonoma Valley Hospital. This care includes several operations, ER visits and ICU.

I regret that I didn’t write this letter in a more timely manner. I wrote directly to the hospital over a month ago.
