Celebrating Mexican independence as one community

Editor, Index-Tribune:

Last Sunday, Sonoma celebrated and enjoyed a free and peaceful afternoon of fun, music, food and friendship in the Plaza. I saw children dressed up and performing folkloric dance. I marveled at the Charros de Sonoma, with their artistic horsemanship. I heard mariachi music, banda, and everyone raising voices for freedom. Most important, I saw people from all ethnicities and walks of life come together in the Plaza as one community.

I would like to thank Councilman Ken Brown and the City of Sonoma, and Consul Armida Tello from the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco, for their participation in acknowledging the history of the Mexican residents in Sonoma Valley, who contribute so much to our community’s culture and economy. Sonoma’s celebration of Mexican independence wouldn’t be possible without the sponsors and volunteers who donating their time and treasure, and presented a truly grassroots celebration. Viva Sonoma.
