Vets to be honored Sunday at 11 a.m. in Sonoma

Those participating include the Mayor, Col. Jaycox, local Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops and more.|

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first official Veterans Day commemorating the end of World War I.

Sonoma is recognizing the bravery of those who have served with an event beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. West.

Mayor Agrimonti will be among the local dignitaries in attendance.

The guest of honor at this year's event is Marine Colonel Warren I. Jaycox, USMCR Retired.

Col. Jaycox's active duty assignments included duty with the 1st Marine Division as mortar platoon leader, regimental intelligence officer and Battalion supply officer. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Navy Commendation Medal.

As a civilian, Col. Jaycox had a career in education serving as a teacher at all levels, principal and finally as superintendent of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District. He later went into business co-founding Sonoma Airporter and was a real estate business broker for over a decade. He served on the Sonoma Planning Commission, Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau. He and his wife of 61 years, Jeanette Jaycox, reside in Sonoma. Their three children, Bradley, Nancy and Russell graduated from Sonoma Valley High School.

The other participants in the Veterans Day program on Sunday include Girl Scout Troop 10112; Shannon Lee Scott; Cub Scout Pack 16; Rev. Peadar Dalton; John Gray, Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Post 1943; Dennis King, Veterans of Foreign Wars Trustee Post 1943; and Jonathan Han.
