Sbragia opens tasting ‘lounge’ in Sonoma

Sbragia Family Vineyards opened a tasting lounge at 520 Broadway late last week.

This is the Dry Creek winery’s second tasting location and its first in Sonoma.

Recent tenants of the Sbragia storefront included Enkidu tasting room, Sonoma Valley Bike Tours (which moved to lower Broadway) and a flag shop. The space, located adjacent to Delhi Belly restaurant, is 1,315 square feet and is the first storefront on Broadway from the Plaza.

While the City of Sonoma currently has a moratorium on granting any new business licenses for tasting rooms in the Plaza Retail Overlay Zone, according to City Manager Cathy Capriola, a new license can be granted for a downtown tasting room if the storefront already was a tasting room.

Sbragia Family Vineyards was founded by Ed Sbragia in 2001. Formerly winemaster at Beringer, Sbragia said he is the only winemaker to have received Wine Spectator’s “#1 Wine of the Year” award for both a red and a white wine.

Today, Ed’s son, Adam Sbragia, serves as the winemaker.

Sbragia is owned in part by Bacchus Capital Management, an investment firm that makes equity investments in U.S. wineries.

The winery’s new Plaza tasting lounge will offer regular special events including weekday Vinyl Happy Hours and monthly trivia nights. Wine flights range from $20 to $30.

The Sbragia tasting lounge on Broadway is currently open Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.

The company’s other tasting room is on Dry Creek Road in Geyserville.
