Pop Up Creativity Grants from Sonoma County’s Creative Sonoma grant fund projects that are temporary creative experiences, installations or objects in public places or within public view. Projects can occur on streets, sidewalks, alleys, plazas, or interior public spaces.

The projects should be on a scale that they can be planned, developed and executed within a three to four month production schedule, and can last for as little as one day or as long as one season.

Engaging community members in art making and the art-making process is encouraged, but simple creative workshops will not be considered.

The goal of the program is to support innovative creative place-making projects in micro-communities across Sonoma County

Several grants of up to $5,000 each are awarded.

Applicants can include artists, creative groups/collectives, nonprofit organizations or commercial businesses located in Sonoma County.

Grant guidelines and application help tools are available online at creativesonoma.org.

The online application opened on July 2 and the deadline is Aug. 15. Awards are announced in September and the funding period runs from October through March.

In 2017, artist Jill Valavanis won a popup grant to create a Love Letters Artwalk, a free art-making event in the Springs area of the Valley.
