North Bay unemployment stays low in July

North Bay unemployment figures stayed low in July, according to data from the California Employment Development Department released Friday.

In Sonoma County, unemployment was at 3.9 percent in July, up from 3.6 percent in June. Unemployment in Marin, which had the second-lowest unemployment in the state, was 3.4 percent in July, up from ?3.1 percent in June.

For perspective, Imperial County ranked last in ?58th place, with 24.2 percent unemployment. Colusa County was in 57th place with ?11.6 percent unemployment. Tulare County had 10.8 percent unemployment, ranked No. 56.

In rankings of counties in California, San Mateo County had the lowest rate at 3.2 percent, followed by Marin and San Francisco counties, tied in second place at 3.4 percent. Napa and Sonoma counties tied at No. 5 with 3.9 percent. Mendocino County ranked No. 15 at 4.8 percent. Solano County ranked No. 25 with 5.4 percent unemployment. Lake County was in the 34th spot, with ?6.0 percent unemployment.

The state’s total labor force was 19.3 million, with ?18.3 million people employed, according to the Employment Development Department.

Nationally, unemployment in July was 5.4 percent, up from 4.6 percent in June.
