Annex to close; raw fish slicing into Community Café site

Sushi rolls into West Napa space|

Sushinoma Underground is now open at the Community Cafe on West Napa Street every Friday and Saturday evening from 5 to 10 p.m. through September.

Jacob Talbert and Camellia Wire, both 40, say that they are in the throes right now of transitioning into the space more formally.

“Our ultimate goal is to buy the business,” he said. “We’ve been working on it with the owner, Margie Brooke, for about a year now. If all goes smoothly should have everything settled by fall.”

Talbert said that once his team is more settled, Sushinoma Underground will be open additional days. Eventually, they expect to serve both breakfast and sushi dinner seven days a week.

Sushinoma pops up at the Tuesday Farmers Market twice a month when the food trucks are in attendance. Talbert and Wire will also be bringing their wares to the new Springs farmers market at Larson Park on Sundays in July from 4 to 7 p.m.

Talbert and Wire also do private event catering, lessons and estate dinners on request. Both have worked in the hospitality field for more than 20 years, according to Talbert.

The property and buildings that house both the Community Cafe and the Annex Wine Bar & Tasting room recently sold to a group of investors.

Currently Brooke holds the lease shared by both the Community Cafe and the adjoining Annex.

According to Annex staff, the wine bar will close permanently on July 30. On July 5, the wine bar’s Facebook page included an “everything is for sale” announcement.

“I think Margie is working on announcing the plans for the space soon,” Talbert said.
