Hiring: Sonoma Post Office is hiring carriers and clerks, according to a recent sign out front. Also hiring is Mary's new Plaza storefront Slice Shack. According to the restaurant, the new take-out pizza spot, located right next door, will open on or around Saturday, Sept. 17.

Tumbleweed but no tunes: Tumbleweed Tiny House Co. has taken over the entire yellow house that formerly housed the Sonoma Music Academy at 901 Broadway/15 W. MacArthur. The company's outdoor showroom is in Colorado Springs. The company sells ready-made starter homes starting at $57,000 but last we heard they don't sell in Sonoma Valley as homeowners can't get permits for them here. tumbleweedhouses.com

Storage changes: Sonoma Storage at 19240 Highway 12 has changed hands and it sports a big new sign heralding its new name, Extra Space Storage. The new operator is the second largest self-storage company in the U.S., with 1,400 locations in 35 states. The company is headquartered in Salt Lake City, and it's a successful real estate investment trust. It turns out storage is a hot, and profitable, business for U.S. investors. The Sonoma property is almost full and according to staff the phone rings off the hook each day with inquiries. The facility is the same size as before.

Celebrate Highway 12: The Highway 12 improvements will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting and community celebration on Saturday, Sept. 10 first at noon at Boyes Plaza Center and then from 1 to 5 p.m. at Larson Park. There will be food trucks and vendors, a watermelon eating contest, a dunk tank, a bike skills workshop with 175 free helmets, a soccer clinic, potato sack race and giveaways. The event is co-sponsored by Sonoma County Regional Parks, Sonoma County Economic Development Board, Springs Community Alliance, La Luz Center, Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, Sonoma Valley Hospital, Nuestra Voz and ArtEscape.

Freedom Week: Businesses who are interested in participating in national Freedom Week Sept. 6 to 12 should contact Dr. Kimberly Hubenette at info@synergydentalgroup.net. During Freedom Week, businesses show their appreciation to members of the armed services, their immediate families, veterans and first responders by providing them with free products and services. The Sonoma Valley Visitor's Bureau will provide a map of participating companies. The event is being produced by Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley, American Legion Jack London Post 489, VFW Bear Flag Post 19, Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau.

New wine label: 3 Badge Beverage Corporation has released a new brand, Firehouse Red. This is the company's seventh varietal. The blend is a tribute to the historic Sonoma firehouse, now restored and serving as the company headquarters.

Wine big wigs: The 25th annual Wine Industry Financial Symposium is set for Monday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 at the Napa Valley Marriott. The theme is “Game Changers for the Next Twenty-Five Years,” and Dr. Robert Smiley of UC Davis, will speak. WineSymposium.com

New coffee shop: Horatius has opened in Glen Ellen's Jack London Village at 14301 Arnold Drive. The space has indoor and outdoor seating and is slowly adding gourmet foods, home décor, antiques, gifts and an art gallery. Right now it is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays. Next week, owner Horacio Gomes hopes to receive a permit begin selling beer and wine, in which case he will expand his hours to be open later into the night, and to add tapas to his offerings.

New role: The Sonoma League For Historic Preservation has appointed Sonoma resident Tracy Reynes to its board of directors for the organization. Reynes is real estate agent with Terra Firma Global.

New chiropractor in town: Julie Carlson, D.C. has re-opened her chiropractic office, Wine Country Wellness, at 17000 Highway 12 in Fetters Hot Springs after eight years away living in British Columbia. Carlson has practiced family/women's health care for almost 30 years. Her office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Carlson can be reached at jcdcdoc@gmail.com.
