Movers and Shakers: April 22

Business openings and closings, Morton’s news, a new brewery perhaps and more|

Business closings:

Studio 35, the art gallery and art class space at 35 Patten St., is closing after two years in business, according to owner Robert Coury.

The Vineyards Inn Spanish Bar & Grill at 8445 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood is closing on Monday, May 30, after over three decades in business. The inn is owned by Steve and Colleen Rose.

Boncora Biscotti in the Kenwood Shopping Center is closing at the end of this month. Bonnie Tempesta founded Boncora Biscotti in 2012, she passed away in 2014 and the bakery is now owned by her daughter Daniela.

Big 3 Diner at the Mission Inn and Spa is also closing its doors this weekend.

Adobe Road Wines is closing its downtown Sonoma tasting room next to Eraldi's menswear on Tuesday, April 26. The winery was founded by race car driver Kevin Buckler and his wife, Debra, in 1999.

Not closing:

Fat Pilgrim on lower Broadway will be closing briefly to remodel and enlarge its general store in May. Owner Craig Miller has one of the side buildings up for rent right now and he has obtained a wine tasting permit if desired by the new renters. Bonus -- a big sale at Fat Pilgrim now through Monday, May 2 to clear space for the remodel work.

The future of Morton's:

Morton's Warm Springs will be opening under new ownership when its 2016 season launches May 7. The new owners are Sean Wadsworth, 32, and Laurie Hobbs, 29. Wadsworth is director of operations at Muir Wood Adolescent & Family Services in Petaluma and Hobbs is a recovery counselor and photographer. They plan to re-introduce memberships, 'which will give folks a way to show their support, get more involved in the community and become a part of this new era at Morton's.' They are hosting a community day where you can learn more on Sunday, May at 1 p.m. RSVP at facebook.com/mortonswarmspringsCA.

Possible new brewery in GE:

Eric Hunt and his wife, Alicia, are hoping to open a microbrewery with bottling and retail sales on the bottom floor of a two-story office building at 13606 Arnold Drive. The actual entrance would be around the corner off of Warm Springs Road.

Long term plans include the Glen Ellen Brewery being open to the public 6 to 8 hours a day. The use-permit application is still in the approval process, however.

WA snaps up local winery:

Washington's Ste. Michelle Wine Estates has acquired Patz & Hall, a prestigious producer of California chardonnay and pinot noir. The sale includes the brand, inventory and winery equipment. The sale marks Ste. Michelle's first move into Sonoma County.

New charging stations:

Both El Pueblo Inn on West Napa Street and Sonoma Valley Inn on East Second Street have recently added new electric automobile charging stations that are available to the community. There will be a ribbon cutting at the Krug Event Center for the station at the Best Western at 4 p.m. on May 11.

Tips Tri-Tip expands:

The Glen Ellen-based Tri-Tip Trolley is adding a second trolley. The Tri-Tip company was started by Susie Pryfogle in 2014.

New farm stand:

The new Flatbed Farm is located at 13450 Sonoma Highway in Glen Ellen. The stand is open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Thursdays from 1 to 5:30 p.m. On April 23 there will be a full day of events to launch the new farm business, including live music, local food and an arts and craft show featuring other local vendors. Flatbed Farm is owned by Chris and Sofie Dolan, and is managed by Rachel Kohn Obut.

Anniversary fun:

Plain Jane's consignment store in the brightly colored storefront on Highway 12 in the Springs is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. As part of its celebration, owner Janie Raymond has organized a big backyard flea market on Saturday, April 30 to benefit the Boys & Girl Clubs' teen program and KSVY.

Hiring:

Wholesale bread company Artisan Bakers is having a job fair for production workers, a janitor, drivers and dishwashers on Monday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at 21684 Eighth St. East.
