Boys & Girls Clubs name Hay, Ball to board

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley have named Dub Hay and Dave Ball to its executive board.

As Starbucks’ senior vice president, Global Coffee Authority, Hay led the team responsible for championing the Starbucks coffee experience and ensuring a single, global voice of coffee in Starbucks stores around the world.

As the company’s chief coffee advocate, he would also oversee internal programs to further demonstrate Starbucks passion, quality and leadership in all things coffee.

For more than 30 years, Hay has traveled to the far reaches of coffee growing regions, such as Sulawesi, Rwanda and Papua New Guinea, building deep relationships with generations of farmers.

Throughout his career, he has experienced a rich cultural education and has a deep understanding of the diversity in coffee growing communities and in 2007, was designated as an Elder by the Kikuyu Tribe in Kenya.

Hay started with Starbucks November 2002 and retired December 2012.

He led the development of CAFE Practices, Starbucks socially responsible coffee buying guidelines, as well as global development of Farmer Support Centers to improve coffee quality and farmer livelihoods. He led the strategy for Starbucks investments in the Yunnan (China) Coffee Industry.

Ball was formerly chief operations officer at David Butler and Associates Consultants. Prior to his position as CC, Ball was a sales and marketing executive in information technology with tenure at IBM, Amdahl, Hitachi Data Systems, and Oracle.

Most recently, he was a managing broker with Sea Ranch Realty, a community from which he and his wife, Kathleen, relocated.

Ball has a great deal of nonprofit experience. He is a board member and treasurer at Norcall Golden Retriever Rescue; a member of Rotary; and, he recently joined the executive board of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley after serving on the Resource Development committee.
