Sonoma’s Avalon Players are staging the ‘battle of the sexes,’ “Taming of the Shrew” as its annual Shakespeare Under the Stars offering, now through Aug. 24, at the Buena Vista Winery, 18000 Old Winery Road, Sonoma.
Directed by Sonoma Treasure Kate Kennedy, the cast includes the ever-popular and often hilarious Kathryn Del Chiaro (as Katherina), the incomparable Prince ArThor (as Petruchio), young Sonoma natives Kyrie Dawson, Aaron Bremner, and Delaney Brummé (as Bianca, Lucentio, and Tranio, respectively), Brian Noyes (as Grumio),Jim Kent (as Baptista), Andy Bryson (as Gremio), Ben Marcus-Willers (as Hortensio), Charles Boles (as Vincentio), youngsters Alana Jacqueline and Alex Radovic (as Biondello), and others.
The newly remodeled Buena Vista Winery is a sublime venue for this intimate communing with Shakespeare on a lovely summer evening in Sonoma Valley. Performances are Thursday through Sunday, now through Aug. 24. It is recommended that patrons purchase tickets in advance as this is a courtyard setting and capacity can be reached.
Picnicking is welcome with the courtyard and tasting room opening at 6 p.m. Shows start at 7 p.m. Wine may be purchased by the glass or bottle on site. No outside wines are allowed.
