Arts Guild reception honors featured artist

The Arts Guild of Sonoma will present the artwork of new member and featured artist, sculptor Jonna Ramey as well as artwork from other new and longstanding members of the Arts Guild of Sonoma at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Jan 3.

Ramey’s career as a performance artist, environmental sculptor, film writer and director morphed into an interest in Zimbabwean stone sculpture when she had the opportunity to study with several Zimbabwean masters in 2002. She has been sculpting in stone ever since. Her work is online at jonnaramey.com.

The exhibition runs from Jan. 2 thru the month of January at the AGS gallery on 140 E. Napa St. in Sonoma.

At the free, public reception, there will be food, local wine and superb art to enjoy with friends, community members and many of the exhibiting artists.

The Arts Guild of Sonoma, located right off the Sonoma Plaza, is a contemporary art gallery with changing   monthly exhibits showcasing the work of local artists. Opening receptions are held on the first Friday of each month and exhibit pieces in acrylic, encaustic, oil and water color paintings, jewelry, mixed media work, ceramics, metal sculpture and more, including smaller objets d’art, prints and note cards. The guild was founded to exhibit and advance the creative efforts of local Bay Area artists. The guild also participates in a wide range of community outreach programs to encourage art appreciation and inspire direct participation in the arts. One such program is Artescape (artescapesonoma.com), an art school in Boyes Hot Springs which holds classes, workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and other continuing programs. Founded in 1977, the guild has solidified its status as the oldest, continuously operating artists’ collective in the state of California.

The Arts Guild of Sonoma is wheelchair accessible and is located at 140 E. Napa St., Sonoma. Admission is free and gallery hours are Wednesday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
