Arts Guild features Newman exhibit

The Arts Guild of Sonoma will showcase the artwork of featured artist Ruby Newman as well as works by guild artists during October’s exhibition.

There will be a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the gallery at 140 E. Napa St. in Sonoma. Artists, friends and the community are invited to attend this lively social gathering. Local wine and snacks will be served. The show runs the entire month of October.

Newman works in a variety of mediums on canvas, paper and prepared panels. She approaches her work with a vibrant color palette, energetic rhythms, and an intuitive response to the subject through the combination of brush strokes and composition. Whether the inspiration comes from her inner mind, the landscapes, or people, the work takes on its own spirit and life. The intent is to transmit a sense of harmonious energy and peace to its viewers. Her work can be viewed at rubynewman.com.

The guild was founded in 1977 to exhibit and advance the creative efforts of Bay Area artists. Opening receptions are held on the first Friday of each month and exhibit pieces in acrylic, encaustic, oil and watercolor paintings, jewelry, mixed media work, ceramics, photography, metal sculpture and more, including smaller objets d’art, prints and note cards. Admission is free and gallery hours are Wednesday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
