Glenn was born on July 26, 1923, in Albion, the only child of the late Horace Nobmann and Pansy Wainwright Nobmann. He was a third generation native Californian. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1941 and from the United States Naval Academy in 1945. He was a scholar athlete in high school playing football, basketball and track. Glenn was also an Eagle Scout and he attended Boy's State as a high school senior.
After leaving the Navy in 1947, he spent three years as a salesman in the San Francisco Bay Area and was then called back into the Navy for the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to the Bay Area after the Korean War, he purchased a small lumber yard in Richmond, known as Richmond Lumber. Glenn's business, now known as Golden State Lumber, is still family-owned and managed by his two sons. The company now services the Bay Area from four locations. The growth of Golden State Lumber was always a source of great pride for Glenn.
Glenn, an avid hunter and fisherman, traveled the world hunting and fly fishing with friends and family. Whether hunting for ducks, pheasant or big game or fly fishing for bone fish or trout, Glenn was always more comfortable in the outdoors.
He is survived by his sons, Paul, and his wife, Susie, of Sonoma; Lee, and his wife, Melodee, of Petaluma; and his daughter, Marianne, and her husband, Roger, of Reddin. Glenn was predeceased by his wife, Lois Hanway Nobmann. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Glenn was cremated and his ashes were interned with his parents and other relatives at the Chapel of Memories in Oakland.
