Senior Nick Spector set a new Maxwell Farms Regional Park course record for the Sonoma Valley High School cross country program and the Dragon boys outran visiting Healdsburg Wednesday afternoon for a 25-32 Sonoma County League victory.

Spector won the SCL dual meet by covering the 2.7-mile route in a swift 15 minutes, six seconds, which broke the previous Dragon boys' Maxwell Park course record of 15:13, set last year by 2008 Sonoma graduate Niko Conner. Also leading the Dragons past Healdsburg were junior Danny Maggioncalda's third place in 16:11; senior Jeff Slack's sixth in 16:50; sophomore Steven Wedell's seventh in 16:52; sophomore Alex Conner's eighth in 17:11; sophomore Ronald Kohut's ninth in 17:25; and junior Gus Bolen's 13th in 18:00.

In the girls' SCL dual-race, the Lady Dragons dropped an 18-41 decision to Healdsburg. Pacing the Sonoma girls were junior Emma McGee's third-place finish in 19:50; freshman Serena Spry's seventh in 22:00; sophomore Sarah Summers' eighth in 22:08; senior Prisila Alvarez's 11th in 23:39; and senior Megan Cline's 12th in 26:19.

The winning junior varsity Dragon boys were led by frosh Luis Mercado's first in 18:13; senior Troy Cameron's second in 18:25; junior Luther Cenci's third in 18:36; frosh Ryan Barmore's fifth in 18:43; sophomore Jeffrey Peterson's seventh in 20:37; and frosh Peter Gray's eighth in 22:35.

In their Redwood Empire League regular season finales at Ukiah, Sonoma's boys' and girls' water polo teams were topped by the Wildcats 11-4 and 13-6, respectively.
Both Dragon squads are the fourth seeds for the postseason REL tournament - which takes place tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 31, in Larkspur - and will play top-seed Marin Academy in the semifinals, with the girls starting at 10:30 a.m., and the boys begin at 12:30 p.m.

Pacing the Dragon boys in their loss to Ukiah were senior goalie Mason Thomsen's eight steals and six blocked shots; senior Peter Armstrong's four steals, two goals and one assist; senior Paul Sokoloski's three steals and two blocks; senior Dominic Amara's two steals, one goal and one assist; senior Sean Hammett's one goal and one assist; senior Clarke Campion's one steal and one block; and senior Jeff Shoemaker and freshman Chase Campion's one steal each.
